ARTIST Q & A

1. Does one series of pieces lead you to other series or directions? If so, how?
Yes, I learn something new every time I put work in the kiln. It might be as simple as a subtle texture, variation in a particular color, or a new color combination that reminds me of something and starts me thinking about the next piece. I often work on several pieces at one time.

2. How is your art best displayed?
Because my work is contemplative, it is ideally displayed somewhere where the viewer can relax and enjoy it in their own time. The highly textural surface should be appreciated up close but the piece as a whole is best viewed from a distance.

3. Where in the artistic process do you affix a title to your work?
It depends on the piece; but, in most cases, it is at the end. The title refers to what feelings I get from the work or what gave me inspiration to make the work. I believe a good title can offer more insight into the work and the thoughts behind the making of the work and I strive to keep them simple so they do not change the experience of the viewer, but, rather offer a deeper understanding of what I am trying to achieve.
