Learn more about this artist

R. Kenton Nelson is a contemporary American painter, born in Los Angeles in the 1950’s. He is a master at depicting life through a thin veneer of perfection. One only has to look beyond the idyllic settings and seemingly tranquil characters to discern the loneliness that are at the core of Kenton Nelson’s work. He paints bold, clean figures, in a style reminiscent of the American Scene painters of the 1930’s. His characters are bold, beautiful, and the very epitome of perfection. No one is tired, haggard, or sad, but each figure is solitary, confined in their own perfect world.

Kenton Nelson has worked out of his studio in Pasadena for over 27 years. He has been featured in numerous publications, and has had his work on the cover of The New Yorker over five times. His original work is exceedingly rare and difficult to acquire, and has been collected by notable celebrities such as Steve Martin and Diane Keaton. His work can also be seen in the 2002 film, Something’s Gotta Give, with Diane Keaton and Jack Nicholson.
