"How are your pieces made?"

"I start with a 5 inch steel disc which I drill, sand and knurl (that is the pattern on the edge, like a quarter has.) Legs are made on a lathe. Gears are made from material called pinion rod. It comes in 12 foot lengths, drilled and cut to length in a lathe. Then I make the handle and drive assembly. I don't make the magnets or the steel spindles that hold the gears, the spindles are made to specifications by a screw machine shop."
